Cycle 4 Sam "5" 2014 was officially launched at the Worlds End Hotel on Hindley St on Sunday November 10.
Special thanks to The Boneshakers, Adelaide's premier cycling blues band who entertained the crowd, to Mega Bike's Roxanne Price who initiated this fantastic event, and to the Worlds End Hotel for hosting us.
Former Cycle 4 Sam cyclist (2006) Rohan Dennis, now Team Garmin-Sharp Barracuda cyclist, also made a special appearance at the launch following his stunning debut on the professional cycling circuit which included appearances at the Tour De France, and victory in the Tour of Alberta, Canada.
Cycle 4 Sam 2014 will commence in Renmark on Saturday April 12, and conclude at the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital on Friday April 18 after 1000km of cycling through the Riverland, Barossa Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula and Adelaide Hills regions. The route promises to be challenging but spectacular, truly show-casing South Australia's pristine landscapes. A team of 26 cyclists have committed to this ride, as well as a large number of support crew who have generously given of their time to this event.
Sunday's launch raised over $2700 for The Sam Roberts Family Fund which included a cheque from Mega Bike who had raised a further $800 from their Saturday morning Cycle 4 Sam Mega Rides (totalling $1800 this year), and $500 from The Harris Foundation.
Since 2006 Cycle 4 Sam has raised over $420,000 dollars for projects within the Paediatric Palliative Care Service of the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital. It is hoped that next year's ride will raise a further $75,000.
