The Sam Roberts Family Fund

The Sam Roberts Family Fund is dedicated to the memory of Sam Roberts who passed away on April 19, 2005 at the age of 4 years 10 months.

Sam fought a courageous battle with Niemann-Pick Disease Type C, a rare neurological degenerative disease of which there is no cure. There are only 500 known cases of this disease in the world.

The Sam Roberts Family Fund proudly supports the Paediatric Palliative Care Service of the Adelaide Women's and Children's Hospital. In particular, The Sam Roberts Family Fund supports families in South Australia who have children battling rare diseases.

Approximately 50% of children diagnosed with a terminal illness have a rare disease of some type. Currently there is little funding or support for such children and their families.

Since 2006 The Sam Roberts Fund has raised over $600,000 through the promotion of its "Cycle 4 Sam" fund-raising, epic bike rides.

Cycle 4 Sam "6" 2016, Torquay to Adelaide, concluded on October 9. The brave peloton braved strong headwinds and rain for the majority of this ride. Our goal was to raise $100,000 to contribute to the TeamKids Beach House which will help to provide treasured time for families with seriously ill children. At the finish line at the Women's and Children's Hospital a cheque for $80,000 was presented.
